Beginning Obedience
Week 1: Meeting without dogs to go over basic information needed to participate in obedience class. Subjects covered include: --type of collar and leash needed --type of treats to use --conduct of owners with dogs meeting other owners with dogs --what to expect from your dog --how to practice with your dog --questions and discussion
Week 2: First week with dogs --dealing with initial distractions of having other dogs in a class --how to get your dog's attention --the command "Sit" --walking on a leash --how to practice with your dog --the philosophy, "what works" -- questions and discussion
Week 3: Continue working --review of the sit command and walking on a leash --review of how to get your dog's attention --discussion of the importance of the "Come here!" command and methods --the command "Down" --starting the command "Stay" with a sit stay --review and reinforcement of the necessity of practicing with your dog --group share - tricks that you've taught your dog and how you've taught them --questions and discussions
Week 4: Continue working --review of walking on a leash and the come command --practice sitting when halting your dog after walking --review Sit Stay command --introduce more distractions with the sit stay command --introduce the Down Stay command --talk about Duration and Distance in relation to the stay command --group share - behavior problems you've solved at home and how --questions and discussion
Week 5: Continue working --review of all that has been covered using a game with prizes! --walking on a leash - right turns, left turns, about turns --walking in between cones and maintaining control --discussion of nail care, grooming issues, other appearance issues --questions and discussion
Week 6: Graduation! --review of all --questions and discussion --trick night --pictures --graduation ceremony |
